Branding

I mentioned very early on, even before the project proposal that an incentive for taking on this limited and time heavy project was my name or branding may be mentioned somewhere on the pack, up to designers discretion was the term.

I dont want to distract from the work but i will include my brand alongside the acknowledgements at the bottom of the back of the pack.

Creating my own brand started very early on, during the lull where i was getting no further with no client feedback. I occupied my time with my own branding so i do think its an essential part of the project and should be mentioned.

As you can see in the branding  sketch book scans on my behance profile, i started where i left off in a graphics module in second year, With my initials, this was boring and over used.
I tried to think differently, think what can put me, my skills and my values forward.

And i came up with a bird, Inspired by a robin but usually tweaked to have a cutesier appearance than a real robin might.
This is personal for a number of reasons. I pursued this idea for the majority of the sketchbook and did a number of digital experiments and naming experiments.

I attend numerous workshops on post graduation, setting myself up as an independent artist and branding lectures, You can see reference photos of these on my behance also.
They were all very informative and inspiring but they didnt help define what my brand should be.

It was only recently when i decided to stick to my own style that the branding took off, i will always be racing to keep up with brilliant designers, but none of them will have my style, and thats what i need to push forward. I realised i think differently, my work thinks differently and for those reasons it becomes a different type of design, an alternative.

I tried to brainstorm organic personal home based designs and names, but nothing felt right. Until it just clicked.

If i looked at more own earlier work differently, if i stuck to my style in both the names logo and promotional material it would be different, but the name, the identity was going in circles until the moment it all clicked.

NIBOR

It sounds strange yes, but what design company doesnt, italic pig, brown bag, kokobeani, i mean they all had to be named someway, or mean something to someone at some point in time, nobody questions the weird names, if anything it sets them apart.

This however isnt just a weird name for the sake of weirdness. this is me looking at earlier work differently, and i have constantly bounced it off people with no explanation, i give them the earlier ideas and then this idea and theyve no idea how i got there.
Not once has someone realised that its Robin!

Semi-palindrome
noun

Palindrome: A word verse or sentence that reads the same backward or forward.
Semi Palindrome: a word spelled backwards with no or a different meaning than the original.

Its Robin spelled backwards, its the same meaning to me as robin except now its more, now it encompasses my design process and my style, im different, my work is different, and now so is my brand.

As cheesy as it sounds, i have had the pieces in front of me the entire time (thus one of the promo illustrations is a little puzzle piece, it could also mean my work is the missing piece to a project)
My work on improving services and awareness, my work with those like autism initiatives who think differently, my work is different and therefore should achieve different goals and appeal to those who are different.

I intend to continue my work with Autism initiatives and similar charities to improve information, education and lives of those effected by autism and other disabilities and this NIBOR brand is a brilliant way to convey that message to future clients and collaborations.

I would have always assumed my work was different and therefore not good, but with this new outlook i realise it is who i am as a designer, while being fully cognisant of the fact many designers and companies chop and change constantly, no design will stick for the entire length of a career. so the pressures off and this is a good starting point in my opinion.

Welcome NIBOR
