Critique Numero Uno
FACT: When critiques roll around no one is happy.
What could make it worse you ask? when they are on very little notice, in front of a crowd you don't know (thanks to my leave of absence i barely know two names on the class register, isolation and out of the loop at its best) and you are a solid 4-5 weeks behind where you and the module descriptor guessed you should be by this point.
BREATHE
In hindsight i wish i'd read the email more clearly, the original critique was a less formal chat about where everyone is, the rescheduled one however was a lot more serious and i only discovered that the night before during the reminder email. cue the last minute Power-point dash.
Thank you Translink, once again i loved being outside the assigned room over twenty minutes early and panicking it was somewhere else as there wasn't a soul in sight until two minutes after the start time. Being a returning student is NOT what i imagined.
Long story short my presentation crashed and burned HOWEVER i found feedback on others projects and presentations as informative as my own, making me *GASP* eager to have another critique, preferably when this lull is long gone.
Once again, never used my cue cards but i prefer doing them just in case i do actually get stuck.
I presented the sketchbooks i'm currently working on, which was my second productivity journal and brand sketchbook.
I was called out very early on for my self criticism MUST FIX THIS BEFORE THE VIVAS !!
Mentioned in a class mates feedback to record ourselves presenting while we practice practice practice, i will allow a minimum of one to two days for this closer to the vivas.
I was worried i didn't have enough to discuss for five minutes so i rambled for the first slide and low and behold i ended up running out of time three slides in, in the end i presented none of my present work !? thus i royally crashed and burned.
Positive feedback and advice?
Although the clients are now both back and have set up a meeting time and date, it isn't until next Friday so i'm working on branding and story boarding. The lecturers agreed i should pursue at least one of my three concepts and be prepared the clients may take to long to decide on a direction and although i will continue to work on the project after graduation and in my own time, for this project and for the sake of finishing it on time i will need to continue it as a fictional/hypothetical project.
I have given myself until the client meeting on Friday to make this decision. I feel the lull should be over now and if i pursued the wrong design direction it would be a wasted week i could use for brand work, further research and storyboarding.
I'm not sure if i should discuss apps and methods i use to focus and to improve productivity on this blog but as it is my last University reflective blog and i'm keeping it quite casual i don't see why not.
