The Great Childcare Dilemma of 2018
So far i have been preoccupied this semester trying to find a healthy balance between parenting a Duracell bunny and final year workload.
I obviously can't not get my son dressed in the mornings or make his bottles or do his laundry etc but I also can't continue as i am by sketching alongside Ceebebies or computer work in the dead of night. leaving me too exhausted to repeat the next day.
Childcare and creche i hear someone mumble?
ah now wouldn't that be heaven to have one of those babies that have no issues with attachment or being more than a breath away from their parents or sleep! no, i tried that last year, he cries until he throws up and the creche have to call me before i'm even fifteen minutes away.
Imagine ! Creche calling you back!
Creche, those people who reassure every person the child will eventually settle turned mine away saying hes just not settling. this wasn't one but two creches that said this. childminders are the same story, in house childminders weren't much different until i found someone he loved spending time with (as long as it was in his own environment), unfortunately between the fact she practically cost me more than my university tuition and the fact she got her dream job in a care home environment, i have no been left this semester with no childcare.
How do i get to class you say ?
good question.
My first supervisor (Padraic) the delightful human being (to the annoyance of a few classmates i'm sure) scheduled his classes after working hours, therefore after dark when i have family home from work and available to watch my son in a sugar and Disney fuelled binge for four hours every Thursday evening.
That sorts out class time.... but what about actual project work time?
For now its the dead of night until i can barely keep my eyes open but at least its child free time until i can find a better solution.
I'm aware i'm likely boring many of you to tears at this point but this is my reflective blog and i'm going to reflect on all the brick walls i hit both academically and personally in regards to this project.
As this is strike week and nothing further has been done and no further feedback given i have little to report this week other than i am struggling time management wise in terms of project productivity. Which ironically was my own personal goal in my project proposal if you can all remember.
I have begun using several apps and through the process of trial and error i will find something that will hopefully allow me to see where my workflow and timing can be improved.
A lecturer has advised the Gnatt chart, which i highly recommend to any of you currently working on complex projects as it does split tasks into small increments, and it is very useful for me in terms of still getting little bits and pieces done but it isn't beneficial in the sense i need to find actual time (more than ten minutes at a time) to sit down and hash out the intricacies of this project.
Boring i know but that is my current problem to solve while im still in these initial design stages.
