The Viva and Beyond

Im sure many of you expected my last post to be the end of this reflective piece but this is my last module of final year and it doesnt end until the end of year show.

I will discuss my end of year show planning and preparation, but first a recap.

The submission date:

Considering it was now 9 am Thursday and i hadnt slept since Sunday afternoon i was surprisingly awake and confident walking in to the Viva.

In summery.... it didnt go well.

Yes they had no major issues with the design as far as i could tell, however alot of features i was trying to present were overlooked. For example the branding. And the focus seemed to be on the non starter features the clients just didnt want, for example typography. These were aspects i could say i looked into but unfortunately it was the clients final say at the end of the day.

I left with a piece of feedback i found useful (include see pg x-xy instead of just the link to the service and the standard ask your midwife)
I feel i mustn't have presented my project properly as they didnt seem to understand this was not the conversation, this did not have to have all the information, that is exactly why previous products failed. This was a conversation starter, that link low risk women are missing in pregnancy.

They rarely see their midwives, they dont know what to ask, theyre vulnerable and its all very new to them. The entire pregnancy is a worrisome time and you never quite know if things are normal aches and pains or if they are symptoms to be worried about. And if so, who do you contact, this pack answers those questions, it gives the user a conversation opener between her nearest and dearest or other mothers or preferably her midwife.

Patient engagement was the issue, i discovered reasons for this and i addressed them, but i think that mustnt have come across correctly because the feedback seemed to be about how there wasnt enough information included, but in fairness if you started listing information youve gone back to the original problem, it is applicable to everyone, pregnancy is a case by case basis and should be discussed with the GP or midwife, this is why the conversation opener is so important, its to engage them with their medical professionals.

The powerpoint has likely lost me 20% as it was 'just awful' to quote one of the lecturers. They admittedly didnt understand it and they didnt like that i was standing and making myself comfortable presenting, theyd have preferred i did death by powerpoint and sat the entire time. It is a box i didnt check and in hindsight i do regret making my final presentation more about me than the grading structure

I am extremely disappointed in the presentation and its feedback however i wont dwell on it, onwards and upwards, i will take it that not everyone likes my style and continue on and work with those that do respond to it.
I have never had a negative client experience by presenting the way i feel comfortable so i dont intend to change something that isnt broken so i wont be taking that piece of feedback onboard right now. I will include the idea of 'see pages x-xy' in regards to the health messages and purple book, i hope to fix this by the end of year show setup time. I also hope to save confusion on links by getting the clients to provide the links and services associated with each topic and health message as that seemed a confusing aspect.

After the Vivas im not looking forward to the degree classification or graduating at this point (if i graduate) But i am excited and looking forward to where this project will go. It has been accepted by the clients and deemed a success amoung their colleagues and should be out to tender for further funding this summer. once successful i will then begin a postpartum pack for the red book and green 0-5 book) Similar in design and further the maternity packs brand. It can be an inclusive all rounder that will improve patient engagement from conception and beyond.
I will also have the opportunity to pitch website and app ideas to the clients at a later date, all sticking to the current illustrative style.

So all in all the viva didn't go well but the project did! So i have to be confident in its potential success
